Field Guide Festival is bringing our guests more experiences in 2025! We’re excited to announce Pangea Selections as our new Wine Partner. From the Land to Larder dinner to the Festival grounds, Pangea Selections will be pairing and pouring wines from Central Texas and beyond that will expand your palette and broaden your knowledge of the category as a whole. Below is a conversation we had with Grant Richardson, Founder and CEO.
Field Guide: Tell us about Pangea Selections and why you chose to open the business in Central Texas.
Grant Richardson: Pangea Selections is an import company of Organic, Biodynamic, and Natural wines that I founded in 2019. What started out as a humble experiment to try and bring a little more dynamic wine sourcing to Central Texas has evolved into a full fledged national import company meticulously crafting one of America’s most distinguished portfolios of fine wines from across the globe. We source from prestigious estates to innovative “garagistes,” and all of our winemakers create pure, precise wines that are living expressions of the land they come from. At Pangea Selections, we focus on amplifying underrepresented winemakers and fostering a more inclusive wine community where diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives—on life, culture, and wine—are celebrated. We strive to be a conduit of diversity and inclusion, building meaningful relationships with both our producers and customers.
I chose to start the business in Austin because of the blossoming hospitality scene the city has seen over the past decade. Despite an excellent dining scene and large population, Texas has oftentimes been an afterthought to major wine wholesalers. The mission of Pangea has been to try and offer a more personalized and curated wine distribution experience with Texas customers at the forefront of the business.
Field Guide: What is the benefit of having a business like Pangea Selections working from the Austin area? (proximity to food scene, restaurants with same ethos, etc.)
Richardson: Having Pangea Selections based in the Austin area offers several benefits, especially given the region’s progressive and vibrant atmosphere. Central Texas is home to a growing community of hospitality professionals who share our belief that wine should be viewed as a living agricultural product, one that reflects its unique sense of place. Austin, also has an enthusiasm for innovation; our customers here seem to have a curiosity and openness to exploring new and lesser-known wines and brands. Rather than relying on familiar, mainstream choices, people here are eager to learn and discover something new. This aligns perfectly with our ethos, creating a perfect environment for Pangea Selections to thrive alongside the city’s dynamic and sustainably-focused food and beverage scene.
Field Guide: What are you most excited about at Field Guide Festival?
Richardson: I’m really excited to curate the pairings for the festival! A great wine pairing can be the perfect “supporting actor” to a fantastic dish. So we are excited to be the hype-man for all the fantastic dishes the chefs and farmers are putting together for the festival.
Field Guide: What are ways local audiences can support Pangea Selections?
Richardson: Ask your favorite restaurant or bottle shop if they carry wines from Pangea Selections! Look on the back label to see who imports your wine? Does it come through a national importer, or someone based in Austin, like us? All imported wines will show the importer on the back label so it can be a great way to better understand your preferences and find wines you like!
Field Guide: What is Pangea Selections bringing to Field Guide in 2025?
Richardson: We are excited to pour some wines from our friends at Alta Marfa, and hopefully make folks rethink their preconceptions about Texas wines. Ricky, Katie, and Lauren are creating some of the most interesting wines the Lone Star state has to offer. We are really excited to showcase their “Picnic” series at the festival: fresh, easy drinking wines perfect for warm Texas spring days or as an aperitivo.
From beyond the Lonestar state, guests can expect to see some of our staff’s favorite bottles from Burgundy, the Jura, South Africa, Oregon, California, and beyond!
Make sure to purchase your tickets to experience these wines!
